AutoCAD 2020 Review
Introduction and Setup
This article is a preview of AutoCAD 2020. It does not cover the new features, which are available in the new Release 1.0.2 on the AutoCAD website and will be available at the time of release.
The following video shows the AutoCAD 2020 default settings for the New Drawing Wizard. It will be updated as we bring up more video tutorials and review the newest Release 1.0.2 of AutoCAD 2020.
The New Drawing Wizard is one of two start screens you can access in AutoCAD 2020. The other screen is the Autodesk Navigator. It has the most information on the software. You can also access the Navigator start screen by clicking the File menu in the lower left corner of the screen.
The New Drawing Wizard is the default start screen if you do not have any layers in the drawing, and it is also the start screen when you open an existing drawing. The New Drawing Wizard is basically a blank canvas. To get the drawing process started, click Next.
Setting the Layers in the New Drawing Wizard
As mentioned above, the New Drawing Wizard is a blank canvas. You can work on the canvas using the standard commands that are included in AutoCAD 2020. However, there are certain items you may want to add before starting your drawing. When you begin working on a new drawing, AutoCAD automatically adds layers to the drawing. You can change the settings on these layers in the Layers window.
On the Layers window, you can access these settings by clicking the 3D Modeling tab. In the 3D Modeling window, click Layer in the upper left corner.
In the Layer dialog box, you can set the default creation options for the first layer. The default settings are shown in the table below.
Click Save and close to save these settings.
In the next dialog box, select the layer you want to apply the settings to, then click OK.
The settings you just applied to the selected layer are also displayed in the Layers dialog box.
You can also set the layer settings in the New Drawing Wizard. To do so, click Layer at the bottom of the New Drawing Wizard start screen, or from the View menu, click Show Layers. In the Layers dialog box, click Layer Settings, as shown below.

Nodes can be created by holding down the Shift key, and left- or right-clicking with the mouse. This may be done for any node at any level of a drawing. When a node is created, a handle is created for it, and the name of the node is automatically entered into the new node’s properties. Multiple nodes can be created for a single handle by holding down the Ctrl key, and left- or right-clicking with the mouse.
Each time a node is selected, its properties appear on the Nodes Properties palette. This palette contains all of the attributes, including shape type, outline, visibility, and AutoLISP functions.
If a node is deleted by dragging it off the screen, its handle is released automatically. However, the properties of the node, as well as any of its branches, still remain on the Node Properties palette. It is also possible to remove the properties of a node by right-clicking on the node’s outline, selecting the “Remove Node Properties” option, and pressing Enter.
In addition to its properties, each node can be examined or edited with the Properties window. This window is available by right-clicking a node’s outline, selecting “Properties”, and pressing Enter. The Properties window contains the attributes of the selected node, which are listed in the order that they are defined in the drawing. The Properties window also allows modification of the node’s properties. For example, a node’s outline can be modified by dragging the point on the outline. Properties can also be modified or added to a selected node. To add a property, right-click the outline of a selected node, select “Properties”, and press Enter.
A new node or a node moved from one drawing to another can be brought into the current drawing by dragging and dropping it. If a node is duplicated, it can be moved or rotated as well.
When nodes are inserted or duplicated, their properties are taken from the current node.
When nodes are moved, their properties are changed to match those of the new node. For example, if a node moves to a new location, its properties change to reflect its new location and/or orientation.
When nodes are deleted, they are removed from the drawing. The handles of all of the nodes to which they were connected are released.

10. Choose the ‘Confirm’ button.
